About us
Caring. Listening. Helping.
For over 20 years, Inverclyde Christian Initiative has been dedicated to serving the community of Greenock, Gourock, and Port Glasgow. Guided by Christian principles, we believe in the dignity and worth of every individual. Our mission is simple: to care, to listen, and to help those in need, distress, or poverty.
Our Purpose
Inverclyde Christian Initiative (ICI) is a registered Scottish charity with a two-fold purpose:
To advance the Christian faith and principles through worship, teaching, and community engagement.
1
To relieve those in need, distress, or poverty through practical care and support, reflecting the love of Christ in action.
2
What we do
Inverclyde Street & Rail Pastors
Our most visible presence in the community, our dedicated team of Christian volunteers patrols the streets of Greenock, Gourock, and Port Glasgow on weekends and public holidays. They are a non-judgmental presence, offering a friendly ear, practical assistance, and a sense of safety to those who may be vulnerable.
Practical Care: Providing essentials like flip-flops for tired feet, foil blankets for warmth, and lollipops for a sugar boost.
Safety & Support: Offering basic first aid, removing dangerous litter like broken glass, and providing a calming presence on late-night trains.
A Listening Ear: Engaging in compassionate conversations and providing support to anyone who needs to talk.
Day Patrols
Our work isn't just at night. Our volunteers also conduct day patrols in Greenock's town center, offering a visible and accessible point of contact for anyone who needs to chat or receive support. You can often find us at our "stopping place" in the Oak Mall.
Civic Prayer Events
We bring together local leaders from government, emergency services, business, and various Christian denominations for annual civic prayer events. Together, we pray for the well-being and prosperity of the entire Inverclyde community.
Community Projects
We regularly partner with local organizations and receive funding for projects aimed at addressing specific community needs, such as mental health support. Our commitment is to meet the ever-evolving needs of our neighbours.
Caring. Listening. Helping.
